Hira Pipes, a renowned manufacturer of ERW MS/GI/GP functioning under the umbrella of RR Ispat (a unit of Godawari Power & Ispat Limited), a flagship company of the Raipur-based Hira Group of Industries. They began with the goal of becoming a trusted steel brand in Central India. They’ve met expectations and are still growing by staying true to the values of honesty, good morals & dedication to make customers happy. Their careful focus on getting the best materials, manufacturing, and post-sales processes has helped them create top-quality products. Mr. Dinesh Agrawal, Executive Director, Godawari Power & Ispat Limited, shared this in an interview with Tube & Pipe India.

Tube & Pipe India: Kindly share the journey of HIRA Pipes, highlighting major milestones and crucial achievements.

Dinesh Agrawal: Hira Pipes is one of the leading pipe manufacturers in India, specializing in ERW MS/GI/GP since 2018. Since then, we have been on a journey of continuous improvements and development. We always use tested HR coils from renowned manufacturers to deliver pipes, which are the best in the industry and set us apart from our competitors. Our HR coil manufacturing facility will start in August 2024 with yield strength YST-210, 240, 310 & 355 and a width range of up to 650mm.

TPI: What kind of manufacturing setup do you have and what is the production capacity?

DA: Today, Hira Pipes have an installed capacity of 1,20,000 TPA for MS Pipes and a productive capacity of 36,000 TPA for GI Pipes. In addition to manufacturing pipes, we also produce approximately 1,00,000 TPA of lighting poles & masts, 132KV monopoles and various structures like transmission line towers, railway OHE structures, solar structures & crash barriers. This financial year, we introduced an HR coil-cum-structure mill with 2,15,000 TPA. We are in the process of further increasing it to 3,00,000 TPA. We are also going to increase our hot dip galvanized product capacity from 1,00,000 TPA to 3,00,000 TPA.

TPI: What does the product basket of HIRA PIPES contain? Which are the industries where your products find application?

DA: At Hira Pipes, we’ve got quite a range of pipes (MS, GI, GP) approved under various Indian standards with applicable ISO & CE certifications. Our product mix includes round, square & rectangular pipes with thickness ranging from 1.6mm to 6mm as per size.

Round pipes range from 15NB to 200NB, square pipes from 15X15mm to 150X150mm, and rectangular pipes from 40X20mm to 200X100mm. Galvanized pipes with zinc coating range from 30 microns to 80 microns up to 12-meter-long pipes. GP pipes are manufactured with coating as per requirement. Door frame thickness ranges from 1.2mm to 3mm.

Our pipes majorly find their application in the automobile industry, oil & gas pipelines, bus body structures, general fabrication purposes, water line & irrigation, towers, scaffolding, conveyor systems, solar structures, and various types of door frames.

TPI: Kindly tell us more about your major clientele.

DA: We’ve had the pleasure of working with big industrial customers like GE, KEI, NTPC, PHE, Eicher, Ramboll, CEBCO, CPWD, JJM Yojana, REDA of various states, and traders & distributors as channel partners. Our client list is pretty diverse, ranging from industrial customers to traders and distributors. We also supply pipes for solar projects.

TPI: What sets Hira Group apart from others? How do you manage to stay ahead of the curve in the industry?

We are a conglomerate of 15 companies, including Godawari Power & Ispat Ltd. RR Ispat is the unit 2 of GPIL. GPIL handles everything from iron ore pellets, sponge iron, billets and ferroalloys to generating power, wire rods, steel wires and oxygen gas. At GPIL, we produce world-class pellets, which enable us to produce top-quality HR coils/structures under our unit 2 facility. We are one of the biggest pellet producers in Central India having pellet capacity of 2.4 million TPA. In a year’s time, we will increase our pellet production to 4 million TPA. RR Ispat focuses on manufacturing and galvanizing pipes, lighting poles, masts & various structures such as transmission line towers, railway OHE structures, solar structures & crash barriers. We have expanded ourselves in terms of backward integration and forward integration. With iron ore mining rights, we control the entire process from mining iron ore to delivering finished products, making us a fully integrated steel manufacturer.

We are in the process of increasing the capacity of our new HR coil-cum-structure mill from 2,15,000 TPA to 3,00,000 TPA. It will make us one of the few manufacturers in Central India to adopt this technology. This has raised our productivity and market share while pushing our R&D efforts forward.

TPI: Kindly tell us about recent developments at HIRA Group.

DA: To keep up with demand, we constantly look at new technical innovations and conduct research & development in our manufacturing process and supply chain. We are in the process of increasing the capacity of our new HR coil-cum-structure mill from 2,15,000 TPA to 3,00,000 TPA. It will make us one of the few manufacturers in Central India to adopt this technology. This has raised our productivity and market share while pushing our R&D efforts forward. We are also planning on capacity and product portfolio enhancement by bringing in other shapes, and looking at the market demand.

TPI: How do you plan to enhance your business presence in India as well as at the global level?

DA: Through your support! Our team constantly hunts for new applications & markets and strives to target them, one small step at a time. We aim to create entrepreneurs both internally and externally, who will ensure our presence in the global market. We are currently in the process of manufacturing export-quality structures & pipes.

TPI: Kindly share your views on trade fairs. How do you think such events help the industry?

DA: Trade fairs are fantastic for networking, meeting new contacts, and keeping up with industry trends. They bring together everyone from manufacturers to buyers, helping businesses connect and stay competitive. These events also act as a platform for market research and feedback on new products.

TPI: What are your expectations from Tube & Pipe Fair 2024?

DA: We’re looking forward to the TPF 2024, Hyderabad, to be held from August 5 to 7. We want to tell the world that we have what’s in today & we are here to stay! We want to put Hira Raipur & Chhattisgarh as the heart of steel for India.

TPI: Kindly share details about the efforts made by your company to make the industry more sustainable.

DA: At HIRA, we prioritize contributing to nature, the environment, and society. In Chhattisgarh, we are renowned for our plantation drives and have established a 160-acre Eco Oxyzone with over 500,000 trees, with plans to plant an additional 20,000+ trees. We collaborate with local governments to beautify cities and undertake initiatives across states. CSR initiatives are central to creating positive impact stories, fostering a spirit of “Growing Stronger Together” with our communities.

Sustainability is integral to our operations, reflected in initiatives such as tree planting, water conservation, and installation of green power units like solar plants. We have installed 160MW of Solar Power capacity. Our OxyzoneSiltara project exemplifies our commitment, with over 500,000 trees planted to enhance green cover. Our manufacturing processes emphasize zero waste discharge, water reuse, rainwater harvesting, and air cooling systems to conserve water, promoting sustainable growth.
