The Steel Authority of India Limited (SAIL) has supplied 216 tonnes of 450 IRS grade stainless steel sheets for India’s first-ever glass sea bridge, which would connect the Vivekananda Rock Memorial to Thiruvalluvar Statue.
The strength and durability of steel sheets supplied through SAIL’s Salem Steel Plant would ensure that the bridge stood the test of time, it added.
On December 30, 2024, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin inaugurated the country’s first glass bridge in Kanyakumari.

Built at a cost of INR 37 crore, the 77-meter-long and 10-meter-wide glass bridge is the first-of-its-kind bridge in India, which gives a unique experience of walking above the ocean and soaking in the beauty of the city.
