Bharat Petroleum Corporation (BPCL), has launched a medium-density polyethylene (MDPE) pipeline for city gas distribution (CGD) project worth INR 2,000 crore in Motihari, Bihar.

BPCL has laid the foundation for MDPE pipeline, for a city gas distribution project in Motihari, Bihar. The INR 2,000 crore project was inaugurated by MP and former Union Minister Radha Mohan Singh.
Reducing the reliance on conventional fuels such as LPG, the project will provide piped natural gas (PNG) to around 50,000 households in the region within a year. The focus will be on delivering clean, uninterrupted and affordable fuel directly to homes.
Additionally, a steel pipeline is also being laid from Gorakhpur to Bettiah and Raxaul via Deoria, Siwan, and Gopalganj, benefitting households, restaurants, hotels, and small industries alike.

The Minister said that India’s gas pipeline network has expanded significantly from 15,340 km in 2014 to around 25,000 km currently, with an additional 10,000 km under construction. The Ministry of Petroleum has authorised BPCL to implement the project across East and West Champaran, Gopalganj, Siwan, and Deoria districts.
