Tube & Pipe India: What will you showcase at Tube Düsseldorf to highlight India’s technological capabilities and manufacturing excellence to a global audience?

Nikhil Modani: We aim to demonstrate the depth of our engineering capabilities, strong process control, and the reliability that global customers expect from their suppliers. As a component specialist, we will showcase a flexible and comprehensive range of tube processing capabilities, spanning cutting and machining through to honing and skiving–roller burnishing. Through this portfolio, we want to highlight that we are not merely manufacturers, but a strategic, one-stop solution provider for tubes, sheet metal components, and assemblies.

TPI: International trade fairs play a crucial role in shaping industry collaborations. How do platforms like Tube Düsseldorf help Indian manufacturers connect with global markets and customers?

NM: Tube Düsseldorf is the largest trade fair for the tube industry in the EU and offers unmatched access to global markets and visibility. Over 70% of visitors are senior decision-makers, while more than 40% attend specifically to identify new suppliers and customers, making interactions highly focused and outcome-driven. In addition, the forums and conferences held alongside the exhibition provide valuable opportunities to engage with key stakeholders across the global tube industry ecosystem.

TPI: From your participation at Tube Düsseldorf, what key global market insights are you hoping to gain and bring back to strengthen India’s tube and pipe manufacturing ecosystem?

NM: Energy transition to clean energy is imperative; we are hoping to understand how the global tube industry is adopting hydrogen and renewable energies in the industry. Another field of interest is AI-supported applications and robotics solutions to enable faster, leaner and more precise production processes. We want to identify key developments in the tube processing industry and gain first-hand knowledge on technological, economic and regulatory issues.

TPI: Over the years, how have you seen India’s representation evolve at international trade fairs, and how do you contribute to strengthening India’s image as a global engineering hub?

NM: We have seen increased participation from the Indian companies at international trade fairs signalling that India’s competitiveness is only growing over time. Indian companies today are presenting themselves as long-term technology and supply-chain partners.

Us being a component specialist; we showcase to the world that you can rely on India to not only source quality raw material at competitive cost but get complete solutions for engineering needs. Our deep understanding of tube processing, manufacturing excellence backed by technologically advanced facilities and customer base, which includes global customers from nine different countries help solidify our nation’s image of a global engineering hub.

We pride ourselves as a one-stop solution provider for tubular components, sheet metal parts, and fabricated assemblies. Our facilities are equipped to handle machining, forming, welding, and super-finishing of tubes.

TPI: What core Indian manufacturing strengths differentiate you on the global stage? For what turnkey solutions is the world looking at India?

NM: We pride ourselves as a one-stop solution provider for tubular components, sheet metal parts, and fabricated assemblies. Our facilities are equipped to handle machining, forming, welding, and super-finishing of tubes. We work closely with customers as a development partner, supporting them from material selection and process optimisation through to final component delivery.

Our flexible and scalable manufacturing capabilities enable us to cater to a wide spectrum of requirements, ranging from high-volume production of up to 100,000 units per day to low-volume, high-value components with annual demand of around 10,000 units. India is increasingly sought after for turnkey engineering solutions involving tube components across automotive, aerospace, oil & gas, chemical, and hydraulics industries.

TPI: Technology partnerships and acquisitions are critical today. How are Indo-global collaborations helping reinforce India’s engineering leadership?

NM: Technology collaborations help Indian companies to evolve from mere cost competitiveness to technology driven engineering powerhouses. Indian companies spend far less in R&D compared to the European counterparts, so such collaborations help bring in innovative & modern technologies to India. This elevates Indian manufacturers from just suppliers to co-developers of products & processes.

TPI: Which international regions do you see as strategic growth markets, and how is India positioned as your global manufacturing base to support these expansions?

NM: Now, with the mother of all trade deals signed in the form of the India–EU Free Trade Agreement, we are likely to see significant opportunities emerging from countries such as Germany, Italy, the Netherlands, Poland and Spain. Beyond the EU, emerging markets like Brazil are also expected to become important trading partners for India. Indian companies today operate high-quality mills with advanced NDT facilities, a wide range of material grades, and adequate capacities to cater to global requirements.

TPI: How are cost pressures across raw materials, energy, or logistics being managed without compromising product reliability or compliance?

NM: Cost pressures in the steel tube industry are being addressed through technology upgrades, improved process efficiency, and tighter operational controls. Key measures include long-term raw material partnerships, yield and scrap optimisation, energy-efficient operations, and logistics consolidation. In addition, with the steel tube industry growing at over 7% CAGR, increasing economies of scale are helping manufacturers partially offset cost pressures and maintain competitiveness.

TPI: How are sustainability expectations from customers or regulators translating into changes in product design, manufacturing practices, or material choices?

NM: Sustainability expectations are increasingly shaping product design and manufacturing practices across the tube industry. Manufacturers are expanding the use of renewable energy, adopting micro- and low-alloy materials to enhance strength while reducing weight, and increasing the use of recycled scrap to improve material yield. In addition, the EU’s Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM) is accelerating the adoption of sustainable practices by making carbon footprint monitoring and reporting a regulatory requirement.

Our deep understanding of tube processing, manufacturing excellence backed by technologically advanced facilities and customer base, which includes global customers from nine different countries help solidify our nation’s image of a global engineering hub.
