Union Minister Bhupathiraju Srinivasa Varma has announced that the Bokaro Steel Plant (BSL) is set for a brownfield expansion aiming to increase its production capacity from 5.25 million tonnes per annum to 7.55 million tonnes per annum.
The expansion aligns with India’s goal of self-reliance in steel production and PM’s vision of achieving 300 million TPA steel capacity by 2030. The project involves significant capital investment, and technology upgradation, boosting the steel sector.

The proposed expansion is expected to attract an investment of around INR 25,000 crore to the state of Jharkhand, leading to the economic and industrial growth in the region, along with substantial employment opportunities.
