Fives Group has signed a landmark contract with JSW Steel, marking a significant step in reinforcing its presence in India’s growing electrical steel sector.
JSW Steel is expanding into electrical steel production to support India’s industrial development agenda, which aims to double steel production capacity by 2030.
The project will be executed at JSW Steel’s Vijayanagar Works in Toranagallu and includes the design and construction of three processing lines dedicated to the production of non-grain-oriented (NGO) electrical steel grades.
The lines consist of one Annealing and Pickling Line (APL) with an annual capacity of 600,000 metric tonnes and two Annealing and Coating Lines (ACLs), each with an annual capacity of 270,000 metric tonnes.
The contract was signed in consortium with John Cockerill. Fives will design and supply the annealing furnaces for each of the three lines. Leveraging decades of experience in thermal processing for electrical steel production, Fives’ technologies are designed to deliver the precise temperature control, strip quality and metallurgical properties required for high-performance NGO grades.
