Tube & Pipe India: DeeTee Industries has recently acquired COMESA in Italy. What was the vision behind this acquisition and how will this acquisition help DeeTee to expand its business in the tube and pipe industry?

Aradhya Baheti: The acquisition of COMESA in Italy marks a strategic milestone in DeeTee Industries’ global expansion roadmap. Our vision behind this move is to synergize DeeTee’s robust manufacturing expertise with COMESA’s European legacy. This acquisition enables us to offer a more comprehensive product range, enhance our R&D capabilities, and provide better value to customers across continents. It also gives DeeTee a stronger footprint in the European market and expands our global reach.

TPI: Please walk us through your business journey, highlighting its history and milestone achievements. Tell us about your infrastructure set-up.

AB: Our journey began with the visionary leadership of our Group Chairman, Shri Manohar Baheti—a mechanical engineer from BITS Pilani and a gold medallist in MBA—who aimed to manufacture industrial slitting tooling for India’s steel industry– products that were previously only imported in India. With an unwavering commitment to quality, customer satisfaction and customized solutions, DeeTee not only transformed the domestic market but also made a mark globally. By 1990, we had begun exporting- a remarkable achievement that turned the tide, making India an exporter of these precision tools. Today we take immense pride in serving over 70 countries across the globe.

Over the past 50 years, DeeTee has achieved numerous milestones. The company was incorporated in 1975 as Dewas Tools Private Limited, followed by the establishment of Dewas Metal Sections Private Limited, a roll forming company, in 1978. In 1981, we made our first export to Europe. The RMR division, dedicated to cold rolling mill rolls, was launched in 1983.
In 1993, we incorporated Decostyle Techniques Private Limited for tubular and laser-cut component manufacturing, and in 2005, Dewas Techno Products Private Limited was established to offer storage solutions.

A significant milestone came in 2012 with a joint venture between DeeTee and the Italian slitter tooling company Emmebi Lame Srl. Most recently, we inaugurated a state-of-the-art facility in 2024, spanning 1,00,000 sq. ft of constructed area, and in 2025, acquired majority shares in COMESA Srl., Italy—a globally renowned manufacturer of leveller and flattener rolls.

TPI: What is your product portfolio and its application areas catering to the tube and pipe segment?

AB: We offer a wide range of products in our product mix. We have expertise in manufacturing of – tube/section mill rolls, slitting line tooling, bar/wire rod mill tooling, bright bar tooling, extrusion tooling, shear blades, chopper knives, fins, coc cutters, cold rolling mill rolls (like – rolls for 6hi, 4hi & 2hi mills, sendzimir mill rolls, back up rolls, skin pass mill rolls), flattener rolls, deflector rolls, slitting line arbors, shafts and leveler rolls.

TPI: What are your plans for upgrading technology and machinery to ensure consistent product quality and stay ahead in the market?

deetee industries

AB: At DeeTee Industries, we are committed to innovation, quality, and operational excellence. Our plans for upgrading technology and machinery focus on the following key areas:

Under the adoption of Industry 4.0 principles, we are incorporating smart manufacturing by integrating IoT-enabled machines and sensors for real-time data monitoring and predictive maintenance. Additionally, we are implementing Manufacturing Execution Systems (MES) to enable real-time tracking of production, quality, and process parameters.
We are also making significant investments in advanced machinery. These include the addition of multi-axis CNC machines to improve precision and throughput. Our heat treatment processes are being automated by upgrading furnaces with PLC and SCADA controls to ensure uniformity and process traceability. Furthermore, we are enhancing tool grinding and finishing capabilities by procuring new generation surface and cylindrical grinding machines equipped with in-process gauging.

To strengthen our quality control systems, we are expanding our advanced metallurgical labs with spectrometers, micro-hardness testers, a moving column closed-loop hardness tester, and an ASTM G65 wear tester. Inline inspection systems, including vision systems and laser-based dimension checks, are being introduced during production to detect defects early. We are also training our shop-floor teams in Measurement System Analysis (MSA) and Statistical Process Control (SPC) to ensure proactive quality assurance.

TPI: What are the recent developments happening in your company?

deetee industries

AB: Some of the recent developments in the company include the introduction of a new grade of wear-resistant steel for forming rolls with enhanced life and the development of a modular tool system for quick changeover in slitting applications.
In terms of sustainability and efficiency, we have invested in a 1MW solar park to reduce energy dependence and have switched to eco-friendly cutting fluids and coolants that offer long sump life and enhanced operator safety.

On the global front, we have successfully acquired the company COMESA and are exploring further collaborations with international partners for joint R&D and technical knowledge sharing. To support talent development, we have launched an internal technical training LMS for operators, engineers, and sales personnel, and conducted certifications on ISO 9001, 14001, 45001, and CQI-9 heat treatment standards for cross-functional teams. We have also established ESG and GHG compliance systems.
