Hindalco Industries Limited, a subsidiary of the Aditya Birla Group and global manufacturer of aluminium and copper production, has announced its foray into downstream products with India’s first backward integrated inner grooved copper tube facility and a battery-grade copper foil manufacturing plant in Waghodia, Gujarat.
The company made the announcement during its Investors Day presentation. It said almost the entire demand of the country’s Inner Grooved Tubes (IGT) is currently met through imports.
The new facility, having capacity of 25,000 TPA in phase 1, will manufacture high-precision copper grooved tubes for air conditioning and refrigeration applications. Hindalco will expand its capacity to 50,000 TPA in phase 2.
The second plant, having capacity of 11,500 TPA in phase 1, will produce high-quality battery-grade copper foil for EVs, BESS and industrial applications, giving the localised market advantage to the customers.
The company further announced the establishment of a cutting-edge copper and e-waste recycling facility in India having capacity of 50,000 TPA.

The company will gradually take the copper and multimetal capacity of this plant to 200,000 TPA in phases.
