Indian government commits USD 45 million to revive Salem Steel Plant of SAIL

Centre approves a USD 45 million infusion to boost capacity, efficiency and revival of Salem Steel Plant, ending earlier privatisation plans.

The Ministry of Steel will invest approximately INR 4,000 million (USD 45 million) in Salem Steel Plant (SSP), a special-steel unit of SAIL, reversing prior plans to privatise the mill. The capital will be used to expand capacity, improve operational efficiencies and strengthen market position.

SSP, headquartered in Tamil Nadu’s Salem district, produces stainless-steel coils and sheets, pipes, submersible-pump components, roof-sheets, and domestic LPG cylinders.
