The Indian Stainless Steel Development Association (ISSDA) finds that the India–European Union free trade agreement is a significant step in India’s global trade development, but raises concern to protect the interests of the domestic stainless steel producers.

While the new trade agreement meets the broader trade objective, the association needs to closely study the provisions of the agreement and engage with policymakers to ensure the interest of domestic stainless steel manufacturers is safeguarded as the market opens to foreign players.

Earlier, India and the EU concluded negotiations for the FTA . Under the agreement, several Indian sectors will gain duty-free access to the 27-nation European bloc, while EU exporters will be allowed entry into the Indian market at concessional duties. The pact is expected to be signed and implemented later this year.
