Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi on August 3, 2025 confirmed that land acquisition for a planned INR 40,000 crore steel plant in Keonjhar will commence shortly, as the developer, which is a joint venture between JGW Group and South Korean steel giant POSCO, has already deposited necessary funds.
The plant, with an initial capacity of 5 million tonnes per annum, is expected to stimulate local employment and economic activity in the mineral‑rich district.

Majhi reviewed multiple development projects across Keonjhar, including new roads, bridge construction, and infrastructure upgrades; he also flagged off public service vehicles during his two‑day official visit.
