Mahler GmbH, a renowned name in the furnace sector, aims to become the numero uno manufacturer of innovative and cost-effective bright annealing furnaces for pipes and tubes for capacities up to 1.5 tons per hour. This was revealed by Mr. Darius Geldner, Managing Director of Mahler GmbH and Mr. Kishan Sarvaiya, Sales & Project Engineer of Mahler GmbH, during their joint interaction with Tube & Pipe India.
Tube & Pipe India: Kindly walk us through the business journey of Mahler GmbH, highlighting major milestones and crucial achievements.
Darius Geldner: Founded as a family-owned company, Mahler started its journey in 1864, specializing in the production of stoves and ovens for houses and kitchens. In 1950, Mahler shifted its focus to industrial furnaces, paving the way for innovation and growth in the field.
Breaking new ground, Mahler delivered its first annealing furnace for stainless steel in 1958, marking a significant milestone in industrial furnace technology. Continuing its legacy of innovation, Mahler introduced its first sintering furnace for powder metallurgy in 1980, revolutionizing the manufacturing process. In 1991, we received the Award of Merit for “PM Processing Technology” from the European Powder Metal Association (EPMA) for the new development of a modern sintering furnace for sinter-hardening with rapid dewaxing zone, incorporated endogas generator and a gas quench unit. Over the decades, the name Mahler has become a term for innovative heat treatment and up-to-date and efficient furnace production.
TPI: Please share information about your manufacturing plants and annual production capacity.
DG: Situated in Plochingen near Stuttgart, Mahler operates as a medium-sized enterprise with a dedicated team of around 30 individuals. Our workshop spans across 2000 square meters, serving as the nucleus for all manufacturing and assembly activities. At Mahler, every furnace is meticulously crafted and assembled within our own workshop in Plochingen, ensuring quality control and attention to detail at every stage of the process.
TPI: What does the product basket of Mahler GmbH contain? Which are the industries where your products find application?
DG: Our comprehensive product portfolio includes conveyor belt and roller hearth furnaces tailored for diverse heat treatment applications in the metalworking industry. Specifically, our furnaces excel in processes such as sintering of powder metallurgy (P/M) parts, brazing, annealing of mild and stainless steel, and gas hardening of components fabricated from both mild and stainless steel. Our products find application in automotive industry, tube and pipe industry, hydraulic cylinders, hard metal and steel equipment sector, and towel radiator sector. In short, our product finds application in all such industries, in which the parts or equipment require sintering, hardening, brazing or annealing process as a manufacturing step.
TPI: What is the USP of Mahler GmbH, which gives it an edge over others? How do you plan to stay ahead of the curve in the industry?
DG: Our furnaces are highly energy efficient and boast of highest quality. Mahler sintering furnaces can save up to 50 percent of the required energy for the process. We are specialized in manufacturing furnaces with a gas quenching and gas balance regulation, even when dealing with 100 percent hydrogen. We stay ahead in the industry because of our quick response to customer queries, coupled with robust and fast after-sales support.
TPI: Research and Development plays an important role in the growth of a company. What is your take on this?
DG: In Mahler, R&D is through driving innovation and technological advancements. We integrate the latest technological advancements into our products, enhancing their performance, efficiency, and reliability. This helps us to enter new markets as well as improve customer satisfaction.
TPI: How do you plan to enhance your business presence in India as well as at the global level?
Kishan Sarvaiya: In India as well as on the global level, we have two approaches – a customer centric approach and participation in trade fairs and industry events. Mahler got its presence in India majorly from ‘word of mouth’. Most of our bright annealing furnaces for pipes and tubes are installed in India. On the global level, we plan to expand our business in the US.
TPI: Kindly share your views on trade fairs. How do you think such events help the industry?
KS: Trade fairs are instrumental in fostering industry growth, facilitating knowledge exchange & market exposure, and driving business success. We believe that participating in such events can significantly benefit companies by enhancing their market presence and providing a competitive edge.
