The Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation (MIDC) has initiated acquisition of approximately 3,500 acres in Wadsa taluka, Gadchiroli, marking the largest-ever land acquisition in this Maoist-affected district to pave the way for JSW Group’s proposed 25 million tonnes per annum steel facility.
Majority of the land is privately owned with some forest patches. A formal proposal is nearing state approval, after which notifications will be issued followed by joint land measurements and possible gram sabha resolutions under the PESA Act.

This INR 1 lakh crore project, announced in February by JSW chairman Sajjan Jindal, will double JSW’s steel capacity and surpass SAIL’s current 18 million tonnes per annum output. The state envisions Gadchiroli evolving into a steel hub alongside projects by Lloyds Metals and Surjagad Ispat.
