The 490 km Mountain Valley Pipeline has halted construction in the Jefferson National Forest, Virginia, following a one-sentence stay issued by an appellate court. Equitrans Midstream, the pipeline’s operator, has stated that it is evaluating its legal options to resume construction, including an emergency appeal in the U.S. Supreme Court.

The project’s federal approval was placed into the text of the budget deal between Mr. Joe Biden, President of USA, and Mr. Kevin McCarthy, House of Representatives Speaker. Moreover, the pipeline is backed by Democratic West Virginia Senator Mr. Joe Manchin, who commented that this new order halting construction “is unlawful and regardless of your position on Mountain Valley Pipeline, it should alarm every American when a court ignores the law.”
