Mukand Limited, a leading manufacturer of stainless steel and heavy machinery design & manufacturing under Bajaj Group, has announced the successful manufacturing of its first-ever Coke Bucket and Carriage, a critical component in the Coke Dry Quenching (CDQ) system. This milestone reinforces Mukand’s commitment to excellence, sustainability, and innovation.

The Coke Dry Quenching (CDQ) process is an advanced and environmentally friendly alternative to traditional wet quenching. By utilizing dry cooling through nitrogen gas circulation, CDQ significantly reduces CO2 emissions, conserves water, and enhances coke quality. This technology plays a pivotal role in mitigating environmental impact while ensuring greater energy efficiency in steel manufacturing.

The Coke Bucket and Carriage system is a key element in the CDQ process, ensuring the safe and efficient transfer of hot coke (maintained at 1050 ± 50 °C) from the coke oven to the CDQ chamber. The system consists of a rotary coke bucket that is transported via a coke bucket car, powered by an electric locomotive, and lifted to the top of the CDQ chamber using an elevator system.

The project, utilizing approximately 100 tonnes of steel, stands out as a one-of-a-kind initiative marked by intricate engineering and advanced manufacturing. Its successful execution underscores Mukand’s expertise in delivering robust, high-precision industrial solutions, reaffirming the company’s capability to take on complex, performance-driven engineering challenges.

Speaking on this achievement, Mr. Gurnam Singh, Chief Business Officer, Machine Building Division, said, ‘‘The successful manufacturing of our first Coke Bucket and Carriage marks a major milestone for Mukand Limited. This project not only showcases our technological prowess but also aligns with our commitment to sustainable manufacturing practices. With additional orders in the pipeline, we are excited to continue contributing to the evolution of environmentally responsible steel production.’’
