Russian steel pipe producer Pipe Metallurgical Company (TMK) announced that its subsidiary Chelyabinsk Pipe Rolling Plant (ChTPZ) and TMK Pipeline Solutions have mastered heat treatment technology for industrial-scale large-diameter (LD) pipelines.
The technology will improve the performance characteristics and will be used to lay pipelines of complex designs. The heat treatment of a pilot batch of 200 tons of pipes was successfully carried out at ChTPZ’s production sites.

This operation reduces the level of residual stress that occurs when forming pipes, having diameters of 508 mm and 813 mm. Therefore, this process minimizes installation and operational risks, reducing the commissioning time for pipes. The next stage of the project will be the heat treatment of the thick-walled pipes produced by the welding plants using multi-pass welding.
