Steel Authority of India Limited (SAIL) will build a new sinter plant at its IISCO Steel Plant in Burnpur, West Bengal.
The USD 34 million contract was awarded to Metso India and Outotec Germany for a plant with 2.673 million tons annual capacity. The project is expected to boost crude steel output by 4.08 million tons while using Emission Optimized Sintering (EOS) technology to cut fuel consumption and emissions.

Scheduled for completion in 40 months, the plant will meet 33% of IISCO’s sinter needs and create local jobs. Additionally, Czech firm Hutni has been awarded the coke oven by-product plant contract, further supporting ISP’s modernization and expansion efforts.
