Sambhv Steel Tubes Limited is set to increase its production capacity to approximately 1.7 million tonnes with a state-of-the-art manufacturing facility in Kuthrel, Raipur. Mr. Vikas Goyal, CEO & Managing Director, highlighted during an exclusive interaction with Tube & Pipe India that the new plant will diversify the company’s offerings, introducing GP coils, GP pipes, and stainless steel (SS) products to cater to evolving market needs.
Tube & Pipe India: Kindly walk us through the illustrious business journey of Sambhv Steel Tubes Limited.
Vikas Goyal: Sambhv Steel Tubes Limited, formerly Sambhv Sponge Power Private Limited, is a renowned manufacturer of premium steel products. As a second-generation family-run business with over 20 years of experience in the steel industry, we are deeply rooted in our values and traditions. In 2017, inspired by the motto “Sab Sambhv Hai” (Everything is possible), envisioned by Mr. Harsheet Goyal, a third-generation entrepreneur, we rebranded as ‘Sambhv.’ In 2018, we began operations with sponge iron manufacturing at our Sarora (Tilda) facility, starting with a capacity of 60,000 MTPA. Over the years, we expanded our portfolio to include HR coils, CR coils, ERW pipes, and GI pipes, scaling our total capacity to meet growing market demands. In 2025, we will introduce stainless steel HR coils with a 60,000 MTPA capacity, further strengthening our position as a leader in the industry. Our journey is guided by the visionary leadership of Mr. Brijlal Goyal, Mr. Suresh Goyal, and our senior management team, who uphold our philosophy that ‘everything is possible’.
TPI: To what extent has your product portfolio expanded over the years? How are you catering to the stainless-steel tubes & pipes segment?
VG: Sambhv Steel Tubes Limited has significantly expanded its portfolio to include stainless steel blooms/slabs, HR annealed and pickled (HRAP) coils, CR coils, galvanized (GP) pipes, and ERW steel pipes. These additions cater to industries like automotive, construction, and appliances, which require high-performance materials.
Stainless steel products are a highlight of our portfolio. Blooms and slabs form the base for premium downstream products, while HRAP coils, with their smooth finish and enhanced properties, are ideal for precision applications. CR coils, on the other hand, offer superior strength and finish for critical industrial uses. Our use of advanced technologies like Argon Oxygen Decarburization (AOD) and cold rolling ensures global quality standards. With an integrated manufacturing approach, we deliver cost-efficient, high-quality solutions tailored to diverse industrial needs.
TPI: Sustainability is becoming increasingly important for businesses today. How significant is it in shaping your company’s identity?
VG: Sustainability lies at the heart of Sambhv Steel’s operations, defining us as a responsible and forward-thinking manufacturer. The inclusion of stainless steel, a highly recyclable material, reinforces our commitment to sustainability by offering customers a high-performing, yet environmentally friendly product. As a backward-integrated producer of ERW steel pipes and structural tubes, we prioritize resource efficiency. By repurposing scrap generated from our pipe and tube mills, hot rolling mills and steel melt divisions, we produce blooms and slabs. This approach not only minimizes waste and environmental impact, but also enhances our operating margins.
At our Sarora (Tilda) facility, we have established a captive power plant with a 132 KvA power transmission line. As of September 2024, this plant operates with an expanded capacity of 25 MW, featuring a waste heat recovery boiler (WHRB) and an atmospheric fluidized bed combustion (AFBC) system. This upgrade, from 15 MW earlier in 2024, now meets 54.34 percent of the facility’s energy needs, up from 43.70 percent in Fiscal 2024. This ensures cost efficiency, optimized energy usage and reduced environmental impact. Our focus on sustainable practices balances economic growth with environmental responsibility. TPI: In what ways do your stainless steel offerings stand out from those of your competitors?
VG: We take pride in being the only company in India with a fully backward-integrated steel pipes and tubes manufacturing facility at a single location. At Sambhv Steel, every product we create—from sponge iron and blooms to HR coils and finished pipes—is crafted entirely in-house at our sprawling 90-acre state-of-the-art facility in Raipur.
This unique vertical integration means we rely solely on our own raw materials, eliminating the need for external suppliers. By controlling every stage of the process – from refining ore to delivering the final steel products – we ensure unmatched quality, precision and consistency in everything we produce. We stand among a select group of manufacturers in India producing stainless steel blooms and slabs using the advanced Argon Oxygen Decarburization (AOD) process. Our stainless steel manufacturing excellence is driven by a host of advanced technologies, such as the AOD process, which refines stainless steel by reducing carbon and controlling impurities for consistent quality. This advanced plant is poised to significantly enhance our production capacity, reaching approximately 1.7 million tonnes of intermediate and finished goods annually. In addition to boosting output, the facility will introduce an expanded product line, including GP and stainless steel (SS) products. This diversification will not only strengthen our portfolio, but also allow us to better serve the evolving demands of our customers across various industries.
