West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has virtually inaugurated an integrated steel plant of Shyam Steel at JSK-II in Purulia district of West Bengal, built with a capital investment of INR 1,500 crore. This is the fourth facility of the company in the state with three others located in Durgapur and Bankura.

Spread at 600 acres of Jungle Sundari Karmanagari, formerly known as Raghunathpur Industrial Park, the steel plant will have steel-making capacity of 1.19 million tonnes per annum in Phase 1. The facility, equipped with DRI plants, power plant, steel melting shop and a rolling mill, commenced construction in April last year.

Mr. Lalit Beriwala, Director of Shyam Steel Industries, said the expansion will result in a consolidated capacity of 4.03 million tonnes per annum (MTPA), including finished steel of 1.36 MTPA. The new steel facility will enable the company to produce high-quality steel products, catering to the growing demand of domestic and international markets.

It will also align with the company’s overarching goal of enhancing capabilities and providing superior service to its valued customers, added Mr. Beriwala.
