As infrastructure, housing, and industrial demand continue to shape India’s steel consumption landscape, manufacturers are increasingly balancing scale with product specialization, operational efficiency, and sustainability. In an exclusive interview with Tube & Pipe India, Mr. Sunil Kumar Agarwal, Director, Kamdhenu Group, discusses how the company is strengthening its manufacturing strategy through technology upgrades, AI-enabled production processes, quality-focused operations, and diversification into application-specific steel solutions. He also shares insights into evolving customer expectations, turnkey offerings, and the growing importance of innovation-driven, value-added steel products.

Tube & Pipe India: How are the evolving steel dynamics- quality, pricing, availability, shaping your manufacturing strategy of steel pipes, tubes and other products?
Sunil Kumar Agarwal: The evolving dynamics of quality, pricing and availability are forcing a strategic shift in steel pipes, tubes and other related products toward better quality goods with a lower carbon footprint. We are also focusing on capacity addition and technology upgrades to ensure our products are not just readily available in the market but are also widely accepted. Our production facilities are geared for maximum operational efficiency and minimal downtime. By adopting relevant digital and AI tools and processes, wastage in the production process too has been managed so that our products offer the best possible quality at affordable costs and with lowest possible carbon footprint.
TPI: In the tube and pipe sector, how critical is steel quality in determining product performance, reliability, and end-use acceptance? How do you ensure the best quality of your pipes and tubes?
SKA: Steel quality is the foundation for product performance, reliability and end-use acceptance especially in the tube and pipe sector. Due to their application in structural and precision equipment, quality of the steel used in tubes and pipes is critical. Apart from ensuring best quality input materials, our production process follows the latest standards in workflow management, quality assurance and product testing to ensure our products meet stringent quality norms to meet the demands of end-users.
TPI: Which end-use sectors are currently driving demand for your steel products, and how is this influencing your portfolio?
SKA: The demand for steel products is primarily driven by the infrastructure sector, housing and industrial use. The massive push for infrastructure development drives demand for structural products such as beams and pillars while the housing sector contributes in driving demand for construction steel such as TMT rebars. Our product portfolio is perfectly placed to meet market demands with products ranging from high quality TMT bars like Kamdhenu Nxt, PAS 10000, structural steel, pipes and colour coated sheets among others.

TPI: Are customers increasingly looking for application-specific steel products rather than standard offerings? If yes, how are you catering to the demand?
SKA: Yes, demand for application specific steel products is on the rise. The next generation interlocking steel with a unique double ribbed design is ideal for most demanding architectural and design needs. Our colour coated sheet combines strength, durability and aesthetics and is in high demand in the roofing segment. We are also revolutionizing the construction industry with our pre-engineered building solutions to cater to diverse construction needs.
TPI: With turnkey solutions in the tube & pipe sector taking a gradual and selective spotlight, how do you view your business evolving or what steps are you taking in the direction to provide end-to-end solutions to the customers?
SKA: Offering turnkey solutions is the natural evolution for our products. Along with offering PFB solutions we are looking at introducing value-added products that offer end-to-end services. Our investments in adopting the latest IoT and AI enabled digital technologies will go a long way in enabling us to design and manufacture turnkey solutions that are highly customizable with minimal project downtime in the future.

TPI: Does offering a wider range of turnkey solutions provide a competitive edge, or does it add operational complexity?
SKA: Offering a wider range of turnkey solutions does provide a competitive edge with minimum downtime for clients. However, the key lies in managing the accompanying operational complexity such as manpower, raw material and production lines to reduce risk. And the risk is also applicable to the clients and they too need to manage the risk. Turnkey solutions are in fact a partnership between the vendor and client to deliver readymade infrastructure solutions.
TPI: How do you ensure consistency and quality across your diversified product portfolio?
SKA: At Kamdhenu, we are committed to delivering the best possible quality to our buyers. We follow a strict quality monitoring system that adheres to stringent national and international benchmarks, including ISO 9001:2015 certifications and BIS 1786:1985 standards for our TMT and structural steel products. We also enforce uniform quality protocols for all manufacturing units and maintain strict oversight on our franchisee partners. All our products are rigorously tested to ensure consistency and quality across our product portfolio.

TPI: Going forward, will growth be driven more by scale in core products or by diversification into specialized steel applications?
SKA: Growth is about balance and for those in the steel industry, it will require a balance between scaling core product and ability to diversify into niche segments. Focusing on the core products like construction-grade steel ensures stability and healthy cash flow while diversification opens up new revenue streams for growth. A hybrid approach that focuses on core products to maintain cost efficiency and investing in innovation, technology and diversification into specialized steel applications is the ideal way to grow.
