Tube & Pipe India: How are the evolving steel dynamics- quality, pricing, availability, shaping your manufacturing strategy of steel pipes, tubes and other products?

PS Singhania: The evolving dynamics of steel—variations in quality, unpredictable fluctuations in pricing, uncertainty of in time delivery and supply chain disruptions play a critical role in shaping our manufacturing strategy of pipes as well as structural fabrication. We focus on strategic sourcing, long-term supplier partnerships, and inventory planning and try to mitigate price volatility to ensure uninterrupted production. Additionally, we prioritize sourcing high-grade raw materials to maintain product consistency and meet stringent project requirements.

TPI: In the tube and pipe sector, how critical is steel quality in determining product performance, reliability, and end-use acceptance? How do you ensure the best quality of your pipes and tubes?

PSS: Steel quality is fundamental in determining the performance, durability, and reliability of pipes and tubes, especially for critical applications such as water supply, oil & gas, and infrastructure. We ensure superior quality through stringent raw material inspection, adherence to applicable international standards, in-process quality checks, and third-party inspections.

TPI: Which end-use sectors are currently driving demand for your steel products, and how is this influencing your portfolio?

PSS: Currently, sectors such as infrastructure development, water transmission projects, oil & gas, and power are the primary drivers of demand. This trend is influencing us to upgrade and align our facilities for product portfolio towards high standards for strength, corrosion-resistant, and application-specific piping solutions to cater to these sectors effectively.

TPI: Are customers increasingly looking for application-specific steel products rather than standard offerings? If yes, how are you catering to the demand?

PSS: Yes, customers are increasingly demanding customized, application-specific products as per project requirements rather than standard offerings. We are addressing this by enhancing our engineering capabilities, offering customized coatings, sizes, and grades, and working closely with clients to develop tailored solutions that meet project-specific requirements.

TPI: With turnkey solutions in the tube & pipe sector taking a gradual and selective spotlight, how do you view your business evolving or what steps are you taking in the direction to provide end-to-end solutions to the customers?

PSS: We see a gradual shift towards turnkey solutions in the industry. To align with this trend, we are strengthening our capabilities in project coordination, logistics management, and value-added services such as coating, inspection, and documentation support. We are looking at carrying out laying of pipelines as forward integration as our focus point to provide end-to-end solutions that may simplify execution for clients.

TPI: Does offering a wider range of turnkey solutions provide a competitive edge, or does it add operational complexity?

PSS: Offering turnkey solutions certainly add to the operational complexity to some extent but at the same time it provides a competitive advantage by enhancing customer convenience which can become a USP (Unique selling point) and shall strengthen long-term business relationships.

TPI: How do you ensure consistency and quality across your diversified product portfolio?

PSS: We maintain consistency and quality across our diversified product range through standardized operating procedures, strict quality control systems, skilled manpower, and continuous monitoring by following relevant & applicable standards for the product as per specific project specifications.

TPI: Going forward, will growth be driven more by scale in core products or by diversification into specialized steel applications?

PSS: Growth will come from both scaling core products and diversifying into specialized, value-added applications and we are working in the same direction.
