Tata Steel is planning a 5 million tonnes per annum (MTPA) expansion at Neelachal Ispat Nigam Limited (NINL) in Kalinganagar, Odisha, involving an investment of INR 40,000 crore, according to CEO and Managing Director TV Narendran.

Tata Steel Ltd. has announced a 5 million Tonnes Per Annum (TPA) long-products expansion at Neelachal Ispat Nigam Limited (NINL), with an estimated investment of INR 40,000 crore. The company completed the acquisition of Odisha-based NINL on July 4, 2022, through its erstwhile subsidiary Tata Steel Long Products for INR 12,100 crore.
NINL’s 1 MTPA steel manufacturing unit at Kalinganagar had remained closed for more than three years due to various reasons, including lack of funds, which is now revived. Tata Steel also completed the Phase II expansion of its Kalinganagar plant last year, taking its overall capacity in India to 26.1 million tonnes.

Mr. T.V. Narendran, CEO & Managing Director, Tata Steel Limited said, “Kalinganagar is one of the most advanced steel plants in the country today, and we have some of the most advanced facilities to service the auto sector and the oil and gas sector”.
