Williams Companies announced a climate commitment aligned with the Paris Agreement, in order to reduce the emission by 40 percent below 2005 levels by 2030, and reach net-zero emissions by 2050. Mr. Alan Armstrong, Williams Companies’ President and CEO, shared that the key to bringing about the planet’s clean energy future is natural gas.

Williams Companies has recently announced a climate commitment with the target of reducing emissions below 2005 levels by 2030, aligned with the Paris Agreement. Demonstrating the company’s seriousness towards climate change, Williams has become the first midstream company in the USA to take this step. The company aims to reach net-zero emissions by 2050, by taking steps to address and repair methane leaks, working towards converting coal to natural gas, enhancing the use of hydrogen and investing in renewables including solar energy installations at its facilities. In addition to this, more pipelines will be required to feed fuel to gas-fired generators that can back up intermittent renewable energy sources, like wind and solar.

Williams Companies’ President and CEO, Mr. Alan Armstrong recently shared that the key to bringing about the planet’s clean energy future and keeping the worst effects of climate change away is natural gas. Mr. Armstrong refers to the low cost, low carbon and highly reliable characteristics of natural gas as the “three pillars” of the future of energy. Moreover, as per research by the U.S. Energy Information Administration, natural gas can immediately replace higher-carbon and higher-cost fuels with a carbon footprint that’s almost 50 percent smaller than coal. “We need to stay focused on future opportunities, but we can’t ignore these immediate opportunities for carbon reduction that are right here in front of us today,” Mr. Armstrong said.
