Welspun Enterprises Limited (WEL) has secured a new order worth about INR 4,123.88 crore from the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) to design, build and operate a 2,000 million litres per day water treatment plant at Bhandup Complex in Mumbai, Maharashtra.
The project, which includes an operation and maintenance (O&M) component of INR 1,880.44 crore, will be completed within 48 months, following which the company will undertake O&M responsibilities for a period of 15 years.
WEL is the infrastructure and energy arm of Welspun World.
As per a statement issued by Welspun, located at BMC’s Bhandup Complex, the plant is considered as one of the largest plants in the world in terms of capacity, which currently supplies drinking water to Mumbai through the existing water treatment plants.
It said Welspun Enterprises has partnered with Veolia, one of the world’s largest technology companies specialising in the water sector, as its technology provider for the upcoming plant.
WEL will leverage advanced treatment processes and technologies, in line with its commitment to maximising resource utilisation and developing sustainable infrastructure solutions.
WEL is currently executing some projects, including the Rural Water Supply Project under Centre’s Jal Jeevan Mission in Uttar Pradesh, covering around 2,500 villages. It is also executing the 418 MLD Waste Water Treatment Facility (WwTF) project at Dharavi, Mumbai.

In August 2023, WEL acquired Michigan Engineers (now renamed to Welspun Michigan Engineers Limited) to expand in the urban water infrastructure and tunnelling solutions segment.
