Global Seamless Tubes & Pipes Private Limited is planning to expand its capacity from 6-inch to 10-inch pipes, as well as explore the tube industry in the near future. This was revealed by Mr. A.R. Biswas, President, Global Seamless Tubes & Pipes Private Limited, during his recent interaction with Tube and Pipe India.
Tube and Pipe India: Kindly walk us through the business journey of Global Seamless Tubes & Pipes Private Limited, highlighting major milestones and crucial achievements.
A.R. Biswas: Global Seamless Tubes & Pipes is a professional mill located in Howrah, West Bengal. It was established by expert technocrats combined with an average experience of 36 years in the steel seamless piping industry.
TPI: Please give information about your manufacturing plant and annual production capacity.
ARB: Our integrated manufacturing unit in Bagnan is spread over 4,00,000 square feet, with an installed output capacity of 60,000 MTPA. Having such a big space gives us the distinct advantage of having hot-finished, hot-pierced, and cold-drawn industrial seamless tubes and pipe-making processes integrated into the same unit. Our strategically located factory is close to two major ports – Kolkata and Haldia, which makes shipping our products easy and cost-effective. We have another unit for stainless steel, located in Uluberia – Panchla, spread across 1,94000 sq ft.
TPI: Please give details about your product portfolio. Which are the industries where your products find application?
ARB: Our main product is the seamless steel pipes, covering nearly all sizes of small diameter seamless steel tubes like OD 10mm – 168.3mm, WT 0.89mm – 14mm in CDS tubing, and OD 26.7mm – 88.9mm, WT 3mm – 15mm, in HFS pipes. We cater to a maximum length of 12.8 meters. We produce marine pipes, line pipes, casing pipes, drill pipes, mechanical and automobile pipes, machining tubes, petroleum cracking tubes, high-pressure boiler tubes, high-strength oil pipelines, and petroleum machinery parts. We manufacture tubes in round, square and rectangular sizes. Our tubes are used in myriad industries like mining, oil & gas transportation, automobiles, cranes, hydraulics, boilers, power plants, cooling towers, nuclear power stations, chemicals, etc. Pipes and joints for air brakes for freight & coaching stock of Indian Railways are our other key products. We also manufacture recessed pipes. Global Seamless develops GB, JIS, ASTM, DIN and other specifications & standards, and is ready for immediate execution as per customization.
TPI: Kindly tell us more about your market footprint and major clientele.
ARB: We manufacture our products for both domestic as well as international markets. Around 50 percent of our products are exported. Global Seamless is currently exporting its products to more than 11 countries around the globe. We have a good presence in North America and South America. We export our products to countries like Mexico and Brazil. In Europe, we have footprints in Italy, Germany and Poland.
TPI: What is the USP of your company that sets it apart from others? How do you manage to stay ahead of the curve in the industry?
ARB: Global Seamless Tubes & Pipes is dedicated to providing its customers with high-quality services and products. At all stages, our products are produced under an integrated system using the most advanced equipment, with rigid quality control exercised at each process. Our products come in surface finishes that exactly meet customer requirements or match the specifications for the intended applications. Inherently excellent properties are further enhanced by advanced heat-treating technology to offer a smooth, pleasing surface texture. Our prime focus is strict adherence to standards, and continuous development. We believe that character determines product quality, everything else is secondary.

TPI: Please share details of recent developments at Global Seamless Tubes & Pipes Private Limited.
ARB: Global Seamless recently decided to open its first manufacturing facility at Northwest Louisiana in the US for an investment of approximately USD 35 million. As a natural gas hub and a key player in the international energy supply chain, Louisiana is a natural choice for our second production facility and first in the Western Hemisphere. This new plant will allow us better to serve our customers with a local supply chain. It is also likely to create 135 direct new jobs in DeSoto Parish. We expect the construction and installation of the first production line to start soon. Commercial operations in the facility is expected to start by the end of this year.
TPI: What are your plans for future growth of Global Seamless?
ARB: For transmitting anything in high pressure, you need seamless pipes. Hence, there is a huge opportunity for seamless pipes in India. As far as our expansion plans are concerned, we have plans to expand our capacity from 6-inch pipes to 8-inch and 10-inch pipes. There is a huge market in the tube industry and we want to explore it in the future. Our vision is to produce internationally-acclaimed seamless steel pipes and tubes, from the best raw material, world-class technology, and scientific management.
