Jindal (India) Secures Clearance for INR 3,600 Crore Steel Project in Odisha

Jindal (India) Limited gets nod for greenfield steel plant in Odisha worth INR 3,600 crore, which will produce special coated steel products, with total annual capacity of 9.6 lakh metric tonnes. The project is part of a broader plan to invest INR 15,000 crore in Odisha across three phases by 2030.

Jindal (India) Limited announced that it has received a letter of approval from the Odisha government for its proposed greenfield steel plant in the state, involving an initial investment of INR 3,600 crore. The project forms part of a broader plan to invest INR 15,000 crore in Odisha across three phases by 2030.

According to the company statement, the High-Level Clearance Authority (HLCA) has cleared the proposal for the INR 3,600 crore facility, which will focus on producing special coated steel products. The plant will include advanced coating infrastructure such as a Cold Rolling Mill (CRM), a Continuous Galvanizing Line (CGL), and a Colour Coating Line (CCL), with a combined annual production capacity of 9.6 lakh metric tonnes. This first phase is targeted for commissioning by 2027.

Meanwhile, its wholly-owned subsidiary, Jindal India Steel Tech Limited (JISTL), aims to expand the flat product division’s capacity to 30 lakh metric tonnes per annum by 2030. Additionally, Jindal (India) plans to set up a steel pipe manufacturing facility with a projected annual output of 2 lakh metric tonnes.

The green-field manufacturing plant will reduce reliance on imports and generate employment opportunities in the state. The modern facility will also strengthen Jindal (India) Limited’s footprint in Odisha’s growing industrial sector.
