The Directorate General of Trade Remedies (DGTR) has recommended the final imposition of safeguard duty on imports of certain flat steel products for 3 years to protect domestic manufacturers from a sudden surge of inbound shipments, according to DGTR notifications.
The move is in response to an initial complaint by Indian Steel Association (ISA), the representative body of domestic steel producers.
The products to be safeguarded include hot rolled coils, sheets and plates, cold rolled coils and sheets, metallic-coated steel, and colour-coated coils and sheets.

The DGTR takes into account the injury made to the domestic industry due to cheap imports and this move is a step to ensure fair competition, fair selling price and a boost to Make-in-India products in India.
