Mukand Sumi Special Steel announces INR 2,345 crore investment in a greenfield Karnataka plant, boosting specialty steel capacity with sustainable manufacturing.

Mukand Sumi Special Steel Limited (MSSSL), a joint venture between the Bajaj Group’s Jamnalal Sons Pvt Ltd and Japan’s Sumitomo Corporation, has announced plans to set up a INR 2,345 crore greenfield integrated steel manufacturing facility at Kanakapura in Karnataka.
The new plant will enhance MSSSL’s production capacity to 700,000 tonnes annually, cementing its position among India’s leading specialty steel producers. It will manufacture high-grade steels catering to automotive, railways, energy, oil & gas, and bearing industries.

Planned as a sustainability-first facility, the project will operate on a zero discharge model, with over 95% of its energy needs met from renewable sources.The plant is expected to commence operations by early 2028.
