NMDC Steel First in India to Earn BIS License for Hot-Rolled Steel in Pipeline Transportation Systems

India’s NMDC Steel has become the first company to secure a BIS license under IS 18384:2023 for hot-rolled steel used in welded pipeline systems.

NMDC Steel Limited (NSL), India’s newest integrated steel plant, has achieved a landmark by obtaining the Indian Standards (IS) certification for “Hot Rolled Steel Strip, Sheet, and Plates for Welded Steel Pipe for Pipeline Transportation Systems — General Requirements (IS 18384:2023).” The Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) presented this license during the World Standards Day 2025 event in Raipur, Chhattisgarh.

The certificate was handed over to Shri Amrit Narayan, Chief General Manager (Steel) of NMDC Steel, by the Chief Minister of Chhattisgarh, Shri Vishnu Deo Sai, in the presence of BIS and state dignitaries. This recognition underscores NMDC Steel’s emphasis on meeting stringent quality, performance, and safety benchmarks in the petroleum and natural gas sectors.
