JSW Steel Limited plans to set up a scrap processing facility in Chennai, Tamil Nadu in order to increase the use of recycled material in steel production and reduce the company’s carbon footprint.

JSW Steel Limited has announced that the company plans to set up a scrap processing facility in Chennai, Tamil Nadu in order to increase the use of recycled material in steel production, thereby reducing its carbon footprint.
The new facility will source scrap from multiple locations including the automobile sector. The processed scrap will be supplied to Vijaynagar mill in Karnataka and to an upcoming mill in Andhra Pradesh.

The company previously sourced 2.25 million tonnes of scrap from western region in the last fiscal year. Currently, the company procure only ready-to-use scrap but once the facility is operational, the company will also process low-grade scrap that requires immersive cleaning and treatment before steel production.
