SMS group inaugurated a new manufacturing facility in Sanand, Gujarat, boosting capacity, jobs, and support for India’s growing steel industry.

SMS group inaugurated a state-of-the-art manufacturing facility in Sanand near Ahmedabad, marking a major expansion of its operations in India. Built on an 80,000-square-meter site, the Sanand facility will manufacture machinery, equipment, and complete systems for flat and long steel products as well as forging technology. It is capable of producing components weighing up to 125 tons and assembling entire production lines.
According to Fabíola Fernandez, CFO and Member of the Executive Board of SMS group, the investment strengthens the company’s production base and positions SMS as a key supplier to India’s expanding steel industry, where output is expected to grow from about 150 million tons to 300 million tons annually.
Marco Asquini, CEO Region APAC & MEA and Managing Director of SMS India, said the new site combines German engineering standards with local manufacturing, enabling reliable and timely execution for customers.

Strategically located in western India’s industrial hub, the Sanand facility offers close proximity to customers, access to skilled labor, reliable infrastructure, and strong connectivity to major seaports. SMS group said the complex is designed for future expansion, with further investments and workforce growth planned.
