AM/NS India has become the first integrated steel producer in India to receive Green Steel certification under the Ministry of Steel’s new Green Steel Taxonomy. The company’s hot rolled flat steel products have achieved a four-star rating (emission intensity between 1.6 and 2.0 t-CO2e/tfs), while cold rolled products have received a three-star rating ( emission intensity between 2.0 and 2.2 t-CO2e/tfs).

AM/NS India has become the first integrated steel producer in India to receive Green Steel certification under the Ministry of Steel’s new Green Steel Taxonomy.
The company’s hot rolled flat steel products have achieved a four-star rating, while cold rolled products have received a three-star rating, following a rigorous independent audit.
”This milestone reflects our ongoing efforts in low-carbon steelmaking, supported by structurally lower-carbon production processes and large-scale renewable energy integration, strengthening India’s position as a globally competitive and sustainable steel producer,” says the company in its social media post.

The Union Minister of Steel & Heavy Industries unveiled the Taxonomy of Green Steel for India in Dec 2024. It represents a transformative framework in steel production that will help define green steel, foster innovation, and create a market for low-carbon products in India. The Green steel is rated as follows: Five-star green-rated steel for steel production with emission intensity lower than 1.6 t-CO2e/tfs; four-star green-rated steel for steel production with emission intensity between 1.6 and 2.0 t-CO2e/tfs; and three-star green-rated steel for steel production with emission intensity between 2.0 and 2.2 t-CO2e/tfs.
