ACME Group has announced plans to invest INR 5,000 crore to set up a green steel facility focusing on Direct Reduced Iron (DRI) technology. In its first phase, the plant will have an annual capacity of 1.2 million tonnes to produce Green Hot Briquetted Iron (HBI) and Green Direct Reduced Iron (GRI), essential raw materials for sustainable steelmaking.
Chairman Manoj Kumar Upadhyay emphasized that the upcoming facility will target extremely low-carbon emissions, underscoring ACME’s intent to lead in clean-tech industrial solutions. The project location is under consideration either in India or Oman, ideally adjacent to existing assets to leverage infrastructure synergies.
ACME is concurrently developing green hydrogen plants in Odisha and Oman, which are expected to supply the clean reductant for the DRI process. Its current renewable portfolio includes 2,700 MW of operational solar capacity.
