ANUP NDT Presents Tube- O- Test System for Online Eddy Current Testing

ANUP NDT, Pune, India is proud to introduce new Tube- O- Test system for online eddy current testing for ERW steel tubes or welded stainless steel tubes. ANUP NDT has successfully installed over 150 Tube- O- Test systems worldwide in India, SA, UAE, USA etc.

Eddy current based NDT system for online tube testing uses encircling coil or segment coil or bobbin coil for testing. Alternating field is generated in the sensor which produces eddy current in tubes. The impedance of the sensor changes as per the eddy currents generated. The variation in the impedance is the signal that is evaluated for acceptance/ rejection. There are various parameters that are making an influence on the generation, detection and presentation of the signal such as frequency, phase, gain, filters, threshold, mode of testing etc.

The system will generally have Absolute and Differential testing channels for online. Absolute channel is for long, open and big discontinuities while Differential channel is for short, abrupt, sudden type of discontinuity detection. The system requires calibration using artificial discontinuity. This reference is given by the standard to follow. Any signal which crosses the limit signal will be termed to be unacceptable. To reduce the effect of permeability variations on the signals, tubes are agnetized using saturation coil/magnetising yoke and power supply.

For marking the location (of defect) on the unacceptable tube paint marker is used. Encoder is used to get the marking accuracy for the paint. The configuration of the system will depend on the order and will be based on the requirement. The aim is to comply the testing as per any international standard such as ASTM A 450, ASTM A 999, EN 10246, API 5L, BS 3889, ASTM E309/ E426 / B111/E 243 as the case may be. The material of the tube, manufacturing process, surface condition, heat treatment if any will decide the response to eddy current and the type of defects detected. Signal from the natural defect is dependent on its depth, orientation, location in the thickness and therefore it cannot be directly compared with the signal from set artificial discontinuity.

Eddy’s current accepted tube may be accepted or rejected in any other NDT. It is not comparable with status from any other NDT as every NDT will have some advantages and limitations from other NDT. Customers who have accepted this standard are presumed to have the knowledge of the advantages and limitations of Eddy Current testing.

ANUP NDT, Pune, India is proud to introduce new Tube- O- Test system for online eddy current testing for ERW steel tubes or welded stainless steel tubes with following features useful for customers.

  • The system uses computers for data storage and communication. Several reports formats are available for data presentation and management reviews.
  • The system has unique feature of ‘Q ‘sorting which is beneficial for long running bed, different length cutting and sorting in automatic condition. First- in-first-go method is applied for this sorting.
  • The system uses forced air-cooling saturation coil which reduces the coolant / oil complexities for saturation.
  • Auto paint marking mechanism uses either time or distance to set for marking the defect locations which are easily changeable.
  • Alternative to saturation coil which uses encircling coil, magnetic yoke is available for testing only the weld line with ‘Flat’ sensor. This system is user friendly and reduces the coil damages / coil changes, thus it is cost effective.
