Tube & Pipe India: Please tell us about your company’s history and major achievements.

Sunil Jain: Jindal Industries Private Limited Hissar is extremely proud to be part of O.P. Jindal group. The journey has been incredible in terms of contribution towards nation-building since inception and we continue to do so today and in the future as well. Looking back, JIPL Hissar was set up more than 50 years ago by a group of friends/relatives, one of them being Mr. O.P. Jindal. Initially a bucket-manufacturing unit, the Hissar plant has since then reimagined itself twice, first into a 2,000 TPM steel and strips manufacturing plant, and then into a steel tube manufacturing plant housing two mills.

JIPL HISSAR manufactures high-quality MS black and galvanized pipes/tubes, hollow sections, powder-coated pipes, line pipes/API. The size range is 15mm to 400mm for round pipes & 15x15mm to 150x150mm in SHS, 30x20mm to 200x100mm in RHS, as per various national and international standards. The company is fully equipped with modern manufacturing machinery, mills, welding plants and galvanizing plants. It has a full in-house maintenance workshop and testing equipment to produce the best quality steel pipes, besides other infrastructural facilities. JIPL is a pioneer in ERW steel tubing solutions. Our adherence to quality is our biggest strength. We have BIS certifications upto YST310 and YST355, including for higher steel grades.

With Hissar Plant in the north, Khopoli in the west & Bellary in the south, we hope to cross 8 lakhs tons per annum by the year 2026. We aim to cross 5 lakh tons per annum in the current year 2024-25.

TPI: You are known to spend a good amount on upgrading your infrastructure and manufacturing capabilities. Please elaborate.

SJ: Our Hissar plant houses 10 mills and three slitters, spread across an area of 32 acres. They are equipped and upgraded with the best technology to work at high-speed production. The current installed capacity is 400,000 TPA out of which our active production ranges from 350,000-380,000 TPA. Currently, we are manufacturing pipes with a rolling range of up to 16 inches outside diameter. Our plant has been manufacturing API tubes, used for oil and petroleum applications, for the past more than 12 years. The plant taps into a production capacity of 32,000 TPM, which is a rarity in the Indian tube and pipe industry at one location. We also produce coated tubes for gas lines within our complex at Hissar. Most of our upgrades are to support faster delivery & improve automation, to reduce human effort, particularly for large dia sizes.

In terms of customer base, we have grown from catering to Northern India to supplying products all over India. We also have involvement in government programs. In 2022, we contributed over 45,000 tons of pipes for the Jal Jeevan Mission in Rajasthan, UP, Himachal Pradesh, Jammu and Karnataka. We expect to contribute similar capacities in the future as well. With increased capacity from the Mumbai plant and the tube plant at Jharsuguda, we plan to export both black and galvanized tubes from the Mumbai location starting quarter 2 of 2024-25.

TPI: What does the product basket of Jindal Industries contain? Which are the industries where your products find application?

SJ: Our whole product line can be classified into three categories, based on sectoral applications. The black tubes are used for firefighting purposes, our pipes are among the top choices in the industry. Thereafter, we have GI tubes that are used for potable water-based applications which are again a preferred choice for quality-conscious customers, especially OEMs. Lastly, we have sectional tubings, which are used for structural applications in all types of infrastructure projects. Among the three, GI tubing applications are our strongest product and are well-recognized in the market. Customers, commercial or retail, specifically ask for our product due to immense trust in the quality. Other applications we cater to are tube wells, rollers, fabrication, solar plants, polyhouses & infra like railways, airports, metro, tunnels & bridges.

TPI: What is your USP that sets you apart from others?

SJ: Our customers are our partners and we cannot imagine a better future for our company without helping them reach their objectives. We’re passionate about delivering quality products. Our goal is to provide excellent quality products at an appropriate time, so the companies can benefit from the created momentum and thrive for a long period of time.

TPI: Please tell us about recent developments at JIPL HISSAR.

SJ: With a working plant in Khopoli, we have started to serve our existing and expanding customer base in the western region. The plant has four mills & one galvanizing plant & further aiming for a higher size range. The production capacity at present is 10,000 tons per month, which we will expand in phase 2, with the addition of the DFT mill & galvanizing capacity by the end of this year.

In addition to the plant, we shall be putting up warehouses in Jharsuguda and Ahmedabad this year, where we already have our company’s sales offices. We are also revamping all our warehouses across India for capacity & improving capability. JIPL is venturing into the plastic tubes market, with the manufacturing of uPVC and CPVC tubes, albeit at a smaller scale and limited region starting in the year 2023-24.

Section pipes, we are working aggressively to grow across India & we are in good progress now. We started this initiative from nearly zero in Dec 2023 and reached a volume of 6000 tons per month, with added warehouses and new capacities we will cross 10,000 tons in the next three months.

In the next expansion phases of all our plants, we wish to install DFTs to meet our customer’s requirements as they have been demanding this from us.

TPI: Please tell us about the current trends in the Indian tube industry.

SJ: Steel mills are seriously using tubes as a value-added product, SAIL, TATA, JSPL, JSW all have their tube plants. This will start putting pressure on tube manufacturers, particularly those who do not have a proper backup from steel mills in time to come.

TPI: Please share your views on trade fairs. How do you think such events help the industry?

SJ: We believe trade fairs enhance brand visibility and help businesses in getting recognition. We can interact with the whole industry, including the manufacturers, suppliers, buyers, and traders under one roof. Such exhibitions provide a golden chance to make lasting connections, which can also lead to collaborations and new ventures in the future. Such events further enable the businesses to analyze themselves, as well as prepare to sell products & services in a competitive environment. The companies can launch new products and get instant feedback for the same.

TPI: What are your expectations from Tube & Pipe Fair 2024?

SJ: We look forward to the Tube & Pipe Fair 2024, scheduled to be held at Hitex Exhibition Center, Hyderabad from August 5 to 7. We intend to use this opportunity to meet customer & industry friends and gather information about innovations, product launches, current trends driving the industry, new materials, and the latest machines & processes being used by the industry.
