Lloyds Metals and Energy Limited receives environmental clearance to expand mining capacity to 55 million tonnes per annum, paving the way for India’s largest iron ore mine.

Lloyds Metals and Energy Limited (LMEL) has received environmental clearance from the Ministry of Environment, Forest, and Climate Change to expand its iron ore mining capacity to 55 million tonnes per annum, making it India’s largest such project. The expansion will enhance raw material availability for domestic steelmakers and catalyze industrial growth in Gadchiroli.
Mining will start at 26 million tonnes per annum with Hematite ore and gradually shift to 45 million tonnes per annum, Banded Hematite Quartzite (BHQ) as beneficiation plants come online. LMEL is also setting up one of the world’s largest iron ore beneficiation facilities in Hedri.
Commenting on the milestone, Mr. Balasubramanian Prabhakaran, Managing Director, said, “This milestone is a testament to the unwavering support of the local communities and the government’s confidence in Lloyds Metals’ capabilities. The Government authorities have been aligned with the long-term vision to Make India Atma-Nirbhar and to make Gadchiroli into the Steel City of India. We are extremely thankful for their support.”

Operations will commence post receipt of Consent to Operate (CTO) from the Maharashtra Pollution Control Board.
