Primetals Technologies has successfully commissioned a new meltshop and two continuous slab casters at JSW Vijayanagar Metallic Limited’s (JVML) Toranagallu plant in Karnataka. The project includes two 350-ton LD (BOF) converters, two ladle furnaces, dedusting systems and two 2-strand continuous casters, supported by Level 1 and Level 2 automation. The first converter, commissioned in December 2024, achieved more than 6,000 heats during its first lining campaign, while the second, commissioned in August 2025, reached over 20 heats per day within six days.
The project also marks Primetals Technologies’ first installation in India of a 350-ton primary dry dedusting system, featuring heat recovery, a dry electrostatic precipitator and axial ID fans to improve energy efficiency and reduce water consumption.
