Known for infusing high-end technology, such as Eddy current testing and visual inspection in the process of steel pipe-making, they offer an innovative and exclusive product range. The company produces steel pipes in a variety of grades, including HR, HRPO, CRCA, CRFH, GP, and CORTEN steel. The veterans, having more than 30 years of experience in the steel business, wish to continue the upward growth trajectory in the future as well. This was revealed by Mr. Lalit Kumar Purva, Director, Purva Metal Sections Private Limited, during an exclusive interaction with Tube & Pipe India.
Tube & Pipe India: How would you describe your company’s journey since its establishment? What elements have played a significant role in the success of this journey?
Lalit Kumar Purva: Purva Group was established in 1993 in Bangalore by Mr. Shiv Kumar Purva to provide all types of iron and steel products under one roof at competitive prices with best services. The professionally-managed group has more than three decades of experience in the steel business, having product mix in almost all types of mild steel products. It is a leading manufacturer of steel tubes in South India, which provides its customers with an innovative and exclusive range of high-quality products.
TPI: To what extent has your product portfolio expanded over the years? How are you catering to the stainless steel tubes & pipes segment?
LKP: In order to meet the varied needs and demands of customers, Purva Group carries out its business operations through three companies- Shiva Ferric Private Limited (SFPL), Purva Metal Sections Private Limited (PMSPL) and Purva Steel Private Limited (PSPL).
SFPL is into trading of all types of iron and steel products, such as HR sheets, plates and coils; CR sheets & coils; structural steels like angles, channels, beams, T-angles and TMT bars. It is also an authorized distributor of Tata Steels Limited, Steel Authority of India Limited (SAIL), Rashtriya Ispat Nigam Limited (RINL) – Vishakhapatnam Steel Plant, and products of all major re-rollers in India.
Through the manufacturing facility at Malur near Bengaluru in Karnataka, PMSPL produces high-frequency induction-welded (ERW) steel pipes and tubes with varied BIS specifications. PSPL is an integrated steel plant that manufactures TMT bars and grades in various sizes and thickness. Our products are available in the following grades: HR, HRPO, CRCA, CRFH, GP, and Corten steel pipe grades including YST 210, YST 500, YST 240, YST 550, YST 310, YST 600, YST 355, YST 650, YST 450, and YST 700.
TPI: What special technologies are used to manufacture the SS product lines? How do you ensure product quality while manufacturing?
LKP: ERW steel pipes and tubes are manufactured through a high-frequency induction welding process from hot rolled/cold rolled/GP/steel coils produced at the steel plants. The raw materials to manufacture ERW steel pipes & tubes are procured in wide coils form, which are tested for chemical and mechanical properties. Steel pipe and tube products are tested in accordance with the Indian Standard Specification No. IS:1239, IS:3074, IS:1161, IS:3601, IS:4923, IS:9295. The tests comprise chemical analysis of the product and determination of tensile strength. During production, online Eddy current testing and visual inspection is carried out for surface defects, dimensional accuracy, straightness & twists, and lengths. At regular intervals, sample pieces are taken as per specifications to carry out tests regarding thickness, bend, dimensions, flattening, weight (mass), crushing and drift expansion. Individual pipes are taken for hydro testing and visually inspected for the specific parameters before dispatch.
TPI: In which industries do your SS tubes & pipes find application?
LKP: Our products, made from high-quality steel, are widely used in construction and general engineering industries, finding application in various segments, such as building works, storage systems, highway guardrails and signage, support columns, trusses, bridges, heavy equipment, exercise equipment, steel furniture, low cost steel housing, cranes, and PEBs. The tubes and pipes are also used in medical devices that require a precise outside diameter, as well as for transportation of gasses and liquids.
