SOMO Produzione, a pioneer in manufacturing machines for longitudinally welded pipes, caters to diverse needs of steel pipes & tubes manufacturers. Serving the industry with pre- bending equipments, JCO bending multiple machines, JCO bending portal machines, tack welding machines, automatic hydraulic calibration press, and cladding hydroforming plant, SOMO focuses on the construction of automatic plants which are completely managed by a control program. In a recent interaction with Tube & Pipe India, Mr. Stefano Dellacqua, Sales Manager, Somo Produzione, talked about his company, its growth progress, and his view on the tube & pipe industry.

Tube & Pipe India: Please provide a brief overview of your company including its history, mission, and values.

Stefano Dellacqua: Since 1960, SOMO has been producing customized presses and shears machines for the international market. During the last 15 years, SOMO focused its attention on feeding systems and manipulation for handling metal sheets during forming, using electronics to control the finished products’ quality by measuring the width of the sheet to bend and during the bending. The constant pursuit of innovation has characterized our history and continues to guide the choices for our future.

We are fully dedicated to providing 100 percent customized machines dedicated to two main markets, steel poles and stainless steel. We prefer to deal with customers interested in reducing the main power and increasing the automation level.

TPI: Could you please elaborate on the target markets and the industries you are focusing on?

SD: Our main focus is on two markets i.e. steel poles and stainless steel. Although both markets utilize steel, both are completely different. Since steel poles are used in infrastructure projects, for instance, street lighting, energy supply, etc. they do not add much value. Most of the time companies compromise their quality and that is one of the reasons that the market is crowded with many companies from Turkey and China competing with us. The stainless steel market includes heavy wall thickness and welded pipes. These pipes are high in cost and are in good demand. Therefore, we have very less competitors and we can play safe and stay in the picture.

TPI: What is your USP? Why should a customer choose SOMO over your competitors?

SD: We are a reliable company. Everything is managed by a PLC entirely designed by us, which allows the production of pipes and tubes in sequence, one different from another, with a very fast setup of the machine. Therefore, we make the life of the customer easy. Our core business is to understand our customers’ needs, helping them from the beginning of their investment, suggesting a better economical strategy, and looking after them even after delivery.

TPI: What is your view on the tube and pipe industry?

SD: We think that the tube and pipe market is growing. The tube and pipe world is a huge world, but we are in a small niche. We believe in progressing slowly. Hence, we think that there will be some development and we believe in this model.
