Marking a significant milestone in its journey towards sustainable business practices, the Ferro Alloys and Minerals Division (FAMD) of Tata Steel has become the first in India’s ferrochrome sector to publish an Environmental Product Declaration (EPD).

EPD is a Type III eco-label that offers transparent and third-party-verified data on the environmental impact of ferrochrome based on a comprehensive lifecycle assessment (LCA). This assessment evaluates the product’s impact from raw material extraction through transportation and manufacturing, adhering to ISO 14040 and ISO 14044 standards.

Ferrochrome, an essential component in stainless steel production, is widely used across industries. The steel giant said by releasing the EPD, it has empowered its customers to make sustainable choices, while supporting green building projects, where such declarations were increasingly required for certifications.

Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Pankaj Satija, Executive-In-Charge of FAMD, said that the EPD for ferrochrome reflected Tata Steel’s commitment to environmental transparency and its leadership in sustainable practices, while aligning with global environmental standards.

With multiple products already certified under GreenPro, Tata Steel would continue to demonstrate its leadership in sustainability and its dedication to meeting the needs of eco-conscious customers, added Mr. Satija.
