India has achieved a significant milestone in its clean energy sector with the commissioning of the country’s first steel pipeline-integrated Compressed Biogas (CBG) plant in Batala, Gurdaspur, Punjab.
The plant, developed by CEID Consultants and Engineering, directly links the output from MEPL Bio-energy to Gujarat Gas’s City Gas Distribution (CGD) network. This direct pipeline integration eliminates the need for cascade transportation (a system where goods are transported through a series of interconnected stages or networks), leading to a sharp reduction in logistics costs and a notable improvement in operational efficiency.
In contrast to earlier systems that relied on MDPE pipelines, the adoption of steel pipelines represents a technological advancement and sets a benchmark for future biogas infrastructure.
This facility ensures the uninterrupted supply of clean Piped Natural Gas (PNG) to a broad spectrum of users—residential, commercial, and industrial—as well as to regional CNG filling stations.

The project offers a scalable model for future CBG ventures, aligning with regulatory norms and technical standards. This initiative strengthens India’s sustainable energy network, reduced carbon footprint, and increased self-reliance in renewable fuels.
