Prime Minister Narendra Modi has laid the foundation stone of the City Gas Distribution (CGD) network project worth INR 1,010 crore in Alipurduar, West Bengal.
The project will provide clean, safe, and affordable piped natural gas (PNG) to over 2.5 lakh households and more than 100 commercial establishments by laying steel pipelines, MDPE pipelines and other equipment in Alipurduar and Cooch Behar districts of West Bengal.
It will also provide Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) to vehicular traffic by establishing around 19 CNG stations.

Scheduled to be completed by September 30, 2030, the project aligns with India’s net-zero emission goals, promoting natural gas as a cleaner alternative to conventional fuels, reducing greenhouse gas emissions by approximately 27 percent.
